Absence of Rapture

Posted by Angel  Published in Pabu's Cradle

If you’re paying attention, you might have noticed the distinct absence of “Rapture” last week.  Nope, the World didn’t end…again.  I’m sure that caused a good bit of disgruntled acceptance in a portion of the populace.  I can relate to that.  It’s the same way I feel when a cooling rainstorm is promised in the heat of summer…and it doesn’t happen.

Surely there must be a way to cleanse all the EVIL in the world without some deity actually bestirring him/herself to descend and destroy everything.   How about if they just stay in Valhalla and Zap all the “Starbucks” outlets for a start…then move on to the Oil Companies and the Porn industry….whatever?  Take it slow.

Are we really seeing MORE natural disasters than ever?  Is this a sign of the impending Apocalypse?  Maybe it’s just a sign of an impending escalation of the news Media…the advances in speed of communication…the hunger for descriptions of sensationalism and chaos?

Dunno about the rest of you but I can do with a little less chaos.  Seems there’s an unending stream of misery couched in earthquake, volcanic eruption, flood, tornado, war and gawd help us…it’s Hurricane season already.  Ole Man RIVER has stepped out and is walking his banks again, but he does that every 100 years or so.  Before “people”, it was a good thing…used to build the fertile land on those banks.  People can’t be angry at him because they put houses in his paths.

The truth is, that it’s ALWAYS been this way.  The Earth cyclically tries to self-destruct….right on schedule.  We just know more about what’s happening on all sides of the mud-ball, thanks to “communication”. People fighting wars in the middle ages or even WW2 didn’t have Cell Phones to call out with descriptive narrative and pictures.

When you think about it, maybe the planet is systematically trying to shake off HUMAN influence.  Maybe, but that’s a gradual process and won’t happen on a Saturday.

An Inconvenient Change

Posted by Angel  Published in Pabu's Cradle

“Hey, Bubba, they’s sumthin’ funny goin’ on here.  Wasn’t we jes in this bar last week?  Looks different.”
“Don’t get your toupee in a wad, Alvin.  Seems to be the same place, jes has a new name.”
“Why the heck did they do that?”
“Dunno, Bud.  Maybe people had a tough time findin’ the place. Seemed kinda dumb to be goin’ to a place called HOME.”
“BLOG’s a damn funny name for a bar.  What the heck’s a BLOG, anyway?
“Not sure, but it looks like one o’ them artsy fartsy Coffeehouses.  Got people sittin’ around talkin’ with not a beer in sight.  I say we go back out in the main street and look for some action.”
“Yeah, but they’s jes more talk and no beer out there too.

======================================================================

Sorry, guys.  The name change was, indeed, to make the BLOG a bit more visible.  Maybe there’s a way to get some “Virtual Beer” on tap.  Y’all come on back now, ya’hear?
