It's with the heaviest heart that I must inform everybody that our most beloved friend, Ernie, has passed away. I received e-mail from Eve this morning of this fact. I have no details, nor in fact, would I post any such. It's enough to know that we've lost him. It speaks to his enjoyment and love of our forum communication that his wife took time in the midst of her grief to send us the notice. She believes he would have wished it. Thank you, Eve. Condolences are never enough for the loss of a person like Ernie. I'm still in shock. It's so sudden, we didn't see it coming. Since it's hard to type and cry, I'll leave you all to add your thoughts here.
Like most of the group that hangs around here, I never met Ernie personally, but dealt with him over the net for many years. We didn't see eye to eye politically all the time (well never actually), but on things technical we were usually on the same wave-length. Agreeing or not, it was always a pleasure to toss ideas back and forth with him.
He will certainly be missed.
……………. there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worthwhile doing as simply messing about in boats.
I don't come here too often… but always enjoyed Ernie. My condolences to this forum for such a loss and more importantly his family. We all forget sometimes that there is a real life beyond the Monitor.
Will miss you greatly my friend. You have been many things to me over the years all them good. Mostly you have been a true friend . You made the world threw these boards a much finer and enjoyable world to be in for me. Things will forever never be quite the same.
Mayhap you are in that higher place with our other friend Tony. Looking down upon us. Debating and creating Stained Glass that is out of this world.
I am back after several years of not doing glass or reading Silicon Folly. I just read the forum in Dec. and was so glad to see a lot of the familiar names were still posting , including Ernie. I am so sorry to hear of Ernie's passing. I still remember his postings from years ago. Do you guys have a mental picture of what you think the forum members look like? I always thought of Ernie looking like Wilfred Brimly, the actor. I will miss his witty banter!
Ernie will be missed. I so enjoyed reading his posts and thoughts on many different subjects.
Despite his disabilities he did as he wanted and nothing stopped him. He lived and loved life.
He will be greatly missed, rest in peace my friend. Prayers for Eve and the family.
How long will it take until I stop expecting to see Messages by Ernie every time I log in? It's been a week and a half and reality still hasn't set in. His "voice" echoes in here and his charisma hangs on the Forum like an aura. It's true that people live for as long as they are remembered.
My heart goes out to his wife and his family… What sad news. I haven't been here for awhile, but the last time I was here I read his posts about his home, his aid and how felt how happy he was. I have learned a lot from Ernie over the last many years. Hopefully he will continue to teach Angels the craft of quality stained glass.

Ernie's name will be a part of Silicon Folly as long as the Board (and I) exist. I still can't re-read any of his posts about the Lake House without sadness. He was so happy there and I'm grateful that he had so much contentment in what turned out to be his final year, however brief it may have been. I'm also grateful that anybody who loved him can still share in that happiness by reading his messages on the Forum.
