Ok…..I started noticing some weird things happening to my computer.  The latest is the warning from "apple" that my system was infected.  One warning mentioned a trojan and viruses.  It had me download to scan for virus.  I now get a warming with the red "!" that my system is infected and needs to be cleaned up.  Of course when I click cleanup it shows that I need to purchase the MacDefender program.

I always thought that Mac didn't get viruses.

Any other Mac users get messages like this?  What type of security systems do youall use?

Or would I just be better off taking my computer to the Apple Store here in town and have them get rid of any Trojans, etc.?  (remember that I'm computer illiterate.  Laugh)

HELP!!!

Okay, just learned (in the past 2 hours) that the security alert that caused me to download the MacDefender (MacGuard, etc.) was the bad guy itself.    With lots of trial and error, I finally found on apple's website how to get the program off my computer.

So now my question is…….is there a program for Mac that will prevent me accidently doing this again?   I really hate having porn sites pop up  FrownCry

Thanks,

There is a free program called the keyboard-to-chair-linkage.  If you have any anti everything on your Mac and it pops up with a message it should also identify itself. If it does not identify itself then don't do what it suggests. Run a scan instead and also do a net search for the message.

If you have no anti everything software on your Mac then when anything pops up from the Internet don't blindly do what it says. You need to manage these things because they get nastier and more clever everyday and the anti everything software packages are always a day-week-month behind the nasties.
