Yep, lately, I'm hesitant to post because it's like talking to myself (with a few exceptions) . We have readers, but people seem to find the "Social Networks" more of a draw. It always confuses me when 200 people can read a thread that winds up with 6 messages. Some threads have a much larger ratio. I love "Lurkers", I even do a bit of that myself on other forums. We're here for everybody who cares to visit. I haven't poured my heart and soul into this Board only to give up when things get slow. Migawd, folks, I even kept it running after the Hurricane when I didn't even have a permanent home for nearly a year. Silicon Folly became my home and my link to a normal world. Thanks to you all for that.
Surely we all understand the appeal of Twitter and Face Book etc. along with the immediacy of Phone access. They don't attract me. I'm too wary of the public Internet and what is increasingly, obviously…the real lack of privacy and safety when you use a system that's shared by millions of others and that's administered by flawed, avaricious human beings. I'll continue to take my social activity in the REAL world and to some extent, here with people I've come to know and care about on a mind-to-mind level.
I'll keep posting, as I hope the loyal members will also do when it moves them. I thought SURELY I'd get a bit of response to the threads about books and the occasional TV show. I KNOW that the intelligent people here DO read. I'd like to have a few dialogues about your tastes in literature…even the escapist and fun kind (which after years of "deep" stuff and philosophy is where I am right now ). A good forum is a place of the mind. It attracts people who are imaginative and who are able to make themselves known without the help of physical attributes…and with revelation of little to NO personal information if so desired. This communication is not for everyone, but I REFUSE to believe there isn't still a large population out there who still value it…and are good at it.
I have the same issues with Facebook. I was on it for about 3 weeks last year then got rid of it. I can see how it would be a great place to share photos, etc., but I still have my PictureTrail account so figure that'll have to do for me. I simply DO NOT get the games that everyone raves about on FB. I don't feel like I have enough time in the day as it is, let alone flitting an hour or two a day away on FB. Yes, I'm middle-aged, but I don't understand how some folks think others would actually care to know they're getting ready to go to the grocery store, or that they just finished dinner, etc., etc. My nieces and nephew just smile and shake their heads…I know it's here to stay. Sigh…
Have to say do have face book. Have been able to find and contact people or friends that haven't know where they been in like 30 or 40 years. Yes works for sharing pictures. Also have quite a few of my younger union members on it so on there for that. Definetly a different generation. Nobody seems to call anymore use texting and stuff instead. Started having all the younger union members texting me. Figured out they were costing me like 30 cents a text. then found out cn get a option where can get up too 500 texts a month for a smalled insurncs dues.

I'm still here, not lost at sea. I check in to see what's goin' on pretty much every day. Boat's just gone back in the water, so it's taking up most of my time.
I agree that a lot of what used to be bulletin board traffic is now in the "social media" realm. Keeeeryst!! I'm sick of hearing about "social Media". And I'm tired of seein' people sending and accepting text messages over dinner – or any other activity that should have their attention.
I still play on a couple of glass boards that are a little slower, but there's traffic every day. It saddens me when even W/C (the "Grand Dame" of glass boards) sometimes goes several days with no posts.
……………. there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worthwhile doing as simply messing about in boats.
