1: a person who makes use of popularPrejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power.
With that in mind, here's a little tidbit from the Huffington Post.

"Glenn Beck: Japan Earthquake Might Be A 'Message' From God! On his first day back from vacation, Glenn Beck addressed the earthquake in Japan, and said he thinks that it could be a "message [is] being sent" by God.
Speaking on his radio show Monday, Beck said, "I'm not saying God is, you know, causing earthquakes," before quickly adding, "I'm not not saying that either."
He then said that whatever one called God, "there's a message being sent. And that is, 'Hey, you know that stuff we're doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it.' I'm just saying."

OK, Glenn Beck is insane…it's part of his appeal. He's not a real Demagogue, he just ASPIRES to that status. He needs to decide whether he's playing in the Political or Religious arena. He's not even original. This kind of crap was being spewed after Katrina, about the "Wicked City of New Orleans". Now, if Bourbon Street was the entire city, you could understand the religious right seeing Brimstone in the streets. Didn't take into account the million and a half decent, hard working, so-called "god fearing" families who were devastated. Jerry Falwell and his cronies were behind that and the same blurb about the 9-11 disaster. If these are "god's" messengers, I'm proud to be atheist.
In any case, nobody should be allowed to get away with this Bullshit. They need to be exposed and denigrated.
I had all but stopped watching CNN when Beck had his TV show there. Could NOT understand why they allowed him on an otherwise good news outlet. (well, I'm now blocking out the BITCH group of Nancy Grace, Jane Velez Mitchell and snarky Joy Behar that air repeatedly in the evenings…as if once is not enough sensationalistic boredom). When Beck showed up on the Fox News Channel, I had long stopped watching it but HIS arrival prompted me to totally eliminate that station from the automatic channel browser. Even among all the sicko Demagogues and liars on there, Beck stands out as an insane CLOWN. His radio show…like Rush Limbaugh's…is just a way to indulge his sickness and smear his fetid ramblings.
Read that quoted radio rambling to see that Beck himself is either confused about exactly WHAT he means…or is too cowardly to say it outright. Gee, Glenn just WHO IS IT sending a message? is it maybe…YOU? Idiot!
Glenn Beck is another thing we agree on. But we can't go tromping on his Constitutional Right to free speech.
The scary thing isn't what he says, them's just words. It's the mentality of those people who absolutely hang on his every word that I find disturbing. The owner of another stained glass board that I frequent, keeps challenging me to come up with something that Beck has said that isn't true. Where does one start??
It's one of those questions that I just can't dignify with an answer. If he can't see it, then my pointing at it ain't gonna help. Sadly, there are thousands, maybe millions, who believe that crap. I watch Beck once in a while as entertainment, in the middle of the night when there's nothing woorthwhile on, and he's a hoot.
For truth in news, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are far more accurate. The people who believe in Beck couldn't possibly understand Stewart or Colbert. Swoosh – right over their heads. Requires thinking.
……………. there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worthwhile doing as simply messing about in boats.
Well, get ready for even MORE Beck-swill. He's negotiating to get his own Cable channel. Of course it's just as easy to block it out as the Fox News channel. Maybe he'll have more success satisfying his megalomania than OPRAH is having with her "OWN" channel. People are staying away from that one in droves. Boring, egotistical, self aggrandizing BS, interspersed with ancient re-runs of old TV sit-coms, DR.Friggin' PHIL, Health channel re-re-runs, rewarmed TLC shows (can you say…"yes to the dress"), old movies and so-called inspirational blurb (you get the idea that I'm not an OPRAH worshiper?) . I'm seeing it as I pass by with the automatic channel selector. Have decided to block it out as a waste of even THAT much attention.
Sweartogawd….Beck makes the American Nazi party look downright moderate. Biggest problem with Beck, like all reformed (he says) alcoholic-drug addicted-fanatical Catholics (and I suspect bi-polar), he thinks of himself as a Messiah. Even Limbaugh doesn't aspire to that station. And if OPRAH is aiming her channel at independent WOMEN, she's missing the mark. Same menta/intellectual level of human nature is drawn to both. Of course, we know that there's nothing of inspiration or support in such shows. It's ALL about the bottom line…attracting sponsors and numbers of viewers to fill their bank accounts. Such is the Media system these days. Actually it always has been such, it's just easier to reach more of the public with modern transmission.
Free speech is a blessing. The downside is that people of a certain intellectual level tend to eventually believe something they've heard repeated over and over. Add a basic human FEAR factor in the background and that phenomenon intensifies. It's how RELIGIONS get started and take over cultures. Maybe the cure is to expose the lies when they exist…or at least vigorously debate them.
