is on my new Samsung laptop.  I got tired of using a paperclip to create a space when typing on the Dell which lost its space key. I found I could use the clip to short the contact on the board and get a space. So I have this little Samsung and am liking Win7 so far. Using Kaspersky for anticrap as it came with a 6mo subscription. Nice screen, fast and light weight with a lithium/polymer battery.  Best buy took off all the Windows sample-soft and crapola so I had a clean machine. Now am installing all my stuff and looking for the license numbers. GlassEye was easy- transfer license to their server, install ap on new PC, retrieve license from their server, done.

It is nice having a fast PC with a working keyboard.   Wish I could tell Ernie about it.

Strange you should post this.  TODAY, I'll be nuking my current Computer and getting a new quad-core, 8G RAM,  killer fast model that we're building.  Going to Win 7, of course and expecting a nightmare.  I don't feel bad about the change in OS because I haven't heard any nightmare stuff about Win7, though it's been out long enough.  Re-installing all the programs and adding back files won't be fun and will probably be an ongoing process for weeks.

I have 2 500gig external Hard drives….both with image backups.  All the program keys and serial numbers are stored in files that can be accessed easily (or on printouts in my paper file cabinet).  Hoping all the peripheral equipment will be accepted.  Only one printer has no Win7 driver update available.  However, I have read that anything plugged into a USB will work with 7.  Here's hoping.

I'm excited…and in dread.  My present computer is obsolete.  The Motherboard is no longer supported by much of anything and we've upgraded as far as it will go.  When you need to scrounge to find a working replacement part, it's time to put the damn things to rest. Doesn't really cost that much when the Internal Hard drives and the CD/DVD burners are fairly new..and when you have a family of geeks who can build them while riding a bicycle…in their sleep. Cool

YECH!!  I hate Win7!!  New computer is great, but 7 is a big PITA for me.. I feel like I have no control at all.  Let me know how you like it.  I think that it's probably great for people who know nothing about computers, but I LIKED being able to drill down to directories to find stuff.. now it's all in libraries and I want stuff where *I* want it, not where Win7 wants it.  Cry  And Office???  forget it, Excel and Word are set up so differently.. tool bars are hopeless.

OH yeah, girl…I feel your pain.  I'm also not feeling the love for this Win 7 OS.  Been sitting here all day and part of last evening trying to recover all the programs I used without thinking about it.  NOW…everything is crap.  Half the software doesn't run.  The hardware is either dead or loading only a part of the old features.  I HATE the excuse for Windows Explorer. I HATE downloading  all the drivers and updated programs.  Looks like I'm gonna lose my little HP 1000 laser printer since they've stopped making it and won't be putting out any Win7 drivers (it's only a little over a year old).  Just loaded a new Win7 version of Acronis backup software and had to enter a 64 part registry number By HAND…3 TIMES before I found that extra character keeping it from being accepted.  Gawd, I'm hurting and cranky!

If MS had used the XP platform to build this Win7 instead of the crappy Vista, we might have the ideal program (well, considering that it's still MS). Where the HELL are all these great features that are supposed to adapt to hardware and software of all types…switching from 64 bit to 32 when necessary?  This clunker doesn't wanna eat anything I try to feed it.

Love the new hardware. At leas all the frustration happens a LOT faster Yell  HATE Win7 so far.  Where are all the GEEKS when you need them?  Had one last night but none today. They DO have day jobs.  They call and listen to me whine and complain, for all  the good that does.  All my peripheral hardware has different letter names.  I can't friggin' FIND anything without a process of elimination…constantly.  We can fix that but right now I'm going around in circles.  erg!  OH, hey…I actually found the install file for IE-Spell.  Need that when I'm this bummed.

I still have 2 PC's on Win2k, most stable OS I have used, and one on XP. Biggest problem so far is being able to network all of them so I can copy to my new laptop.  I plugged in my old Canon S9000 printer (6 color & 11x17 paper) and Win7 found it and installed the driver which promptly told me all the color cartridges were low or empty at $13 each.  I also need a new $95 print-head as the printer has sat unused too long.  Lesson here- use it or lose it!

One of my Ham Radio programming packages was offering a discount to upgrade versions and get a new USB cable that does not require an adapter so I am getting that.  I bought two Linksys wireless webcams but returned them- too much trouble and inconsistant results in configuration. I use an ap called iCam that rebroadcasts up to 4 cameras to my iPhone and records motion. Have to try some other manufacturers cameras. I have conventional 4 cameras in my building up north.

The most difficult software so far was my Garmin mapping / marine charting package. The land map and marine charts are locked and it took some time to find the correct sequence of install and the keys downloaded.  I do create a restore point before each software install which allows a quick restore to back-out the install if it fails.

I find myself adjusting the zoom level for some web sites and applications. The screen is very sharp but the eyeballs are a mite fuzzy with fine type and/or certain beverages. A control/plus or control/minus sets the zoom level as needed. I did not get the billboard screen size laptop.

"When you need to scrounge to find a working replacement parts"   Have the same problem with the body….

I'm still plugging along the Win7 trail.  Finally reached the point where I no longer feel like I'm walking through the swamps in bedroom slippers.  Got back everything I really want including a lot of updated old (and a few new) programs.  Hatred for 7 is mellowing out to a healthy disdain.  Thought I'd lost the Laserjet, but no…I was just losing my mind.  The manual I have is for several similar models from the 1000 to 1006.  I THOUGHT I had the 1000 (for which there is no Win7 driver) but noooooo…on the little plate right on front it says Laserjet 1006. OH, crap…went browsing through HP heaven and found a driver.  Printer now works perfectly.  SO, what should I do with the new one that will arrive tomorrow from Amazon?  Keep it as backup or return unopened?  Stupid panic purchase (not expensive but….).

Doug I'm also finding a terrible inconsistency with print size from site to site and within programs.  Not a comfortable condition.  Also having to discover the traps that you don't see until they bite your ass…like power settings that will keep turning OFF everything unless you find and set to NEVER.  Who knew?  I did a full backup to the Maxtor External drive.  Of course I had to buy a new Acronis program for win7….of course.  But a backup is good

MY geeks are sitting quietly at this point waiting for the storm to blow over, when my brain finishes absorbing new stuff.  They're now at the point of answering questions as they come up and ignoring all the street language that comes along with it.  Damn new CPU case is grillwork and clear side panel with a ton of flashing and blinking Blue LED's.  Feels like disco heaven.  This is what happens when you let a 21yr old choose your hardware.Cool  I sort of like it, but am not admitting that.

Went to Windows 7 with desktop computer few months ago.  Got the wife new laptop for xmas but i ended up with it account use mine for all my stuff and also all my Union books. So need one dependable. Old one was getting shaky. But is the same as wifes so am using the old one for backup computer for both of us. But going to get wife another one with tax monies.

As far as the windows 7 have to say do like it after a few adjustments. First you can change settings and stuff to run and look more like xp if you want.  Was leary of having to use windows live mail. But finding out it is just like express was and also looks like it with a few adjustments.

Only adjustments need yet is have a couple programs (glass eye one) that when you click on it to open the dang box keeps opening up asking if you want to trust the "You want the unknown publisher to make changes". but that is a adjustment within norton.

Had Office 2003 before but when went to load it found that the dang cd wasn't in the case. So went online and purchased a download for Office 2007. But when downloaded it and installed it it was Office 2010(which was nice surprise). Is alot diffrent than 2003. Namely the tool bars. But again there you can set them so that they don't show unless you click on the tab you need and only that part will show. Lttle using and actually like it a lot better than 2003.

Also found out that now got both my computers on Windows 7 can once again network all my printers once again. Nice now so don't have to put what you want to printwr and run to the computer that has the particular printer you want to use. Once gain got all components wirlessly net worked so can use any computer anywhere in the house. 4 laptops, two desktops 4 printers, 1 copy/scanner. LOL funny how after got out of the computer building fiel 30 years go and wouldn't have one in the house that now got so much crap. Oh ya got one of them new fangled cell phone that has internet and all that fancy stuff. Neighbor kid helped me reseach for the one that fit for my particular needs. Ended up with the "Droid Global". Now all my relatives, friend and particuallury all the 175  Union members of mine won't be getting calls like from my old one that would dial out itself at times when it was in my belt case. Some didn't think it was to funny after a few times at 3.00 am. LOL. Also up graded to the verizon 4g network for the laptop internet when on the road"definetly a lot faster".  Lastly the wife got me a new "Bose blue tooth" for the phone. Wasn't aware that Bose made one. Have to say it beats anythingout there. Was even able use the dang thing when forgot the phone in the house and was out in the yard-kool.

Shit just noticed haven't put I-spell on this thing yet—grrrr.

Paul, how do you make it look more like XP?  I just ripped a CD so I could make a playlist and it took me over 15 minutes of searching before I could find the files, even though I knew where to look.. Confused

I will have to look at Live Mail.  I too was using Outlook (old ver) which syncs with several email sources and the iPhone but do not want to buy more MS packages. I use OpenOffice as a substitute as it is free.

Found Google Calendar syncs with the native iPhone calendar so am trying that.  Still having inconsistant networking with Win2000Pro, XP and Win7.  Sometimes there and then not next time all the PC's get powered up.

Where is the setting to boot without turning on the wireless adapter? I am plugged in normally and would turn on the wireless when needed as I have this button on the laptop.  Also need to see how to use the camera to talk to my granddaughter.

Found that it does but it looks like not with Google, Yahoo or my own domain mail.  Blechh!
