I have an axle kit for a kaleidoscope.  I want to use the brass axle for another purpose but it needs to be bent into a right angle.  Any suggestions on how to do this?

sharp of gradual bend? if gradual, 2 pairs of pliers. if sharp, a hammer and a vise. bend it slightly, then hammer it a bit to get a sharp bend.
